Request this ProductProduct Summary
Very good condition clean and well grooved bore. Adopted near the end of World War I, and meant to supplement the M1911 in production. Being chambered for the same .45 ACP as the 1911 but requires moon clips to eject the rounds. The grips are not correct but this is an example of a Brazilian Police model
It is not required to use moon clips to chamber and fire this revolver, but moon clips will help a lot with extracting and quicker loading .
The Smith & Wesson M1917, also known as the M1937 or Modelo 1937 in the context of its Brazilian contract, was a revolver specifically ordered and used by the Brazilian military. Brazil placed an order for 25,000 M1917s in 1937, and a later order of 12,000 in 1946.
These revolvers were identified by the large Brazilian crest stamped on their sideplates, and some have been re-imported into the US for commercial sale
Identification:
Brazilian-contracted M1917s are identifiable by the Brazilian crest on their sideplates.
Features:
They also feature altered rear sights and a "Made in U.S.A." stamp on the left sideplate.
Grips:
Most were fitted with commercial-style checkered grips, though some retained smooth grips from the U.S. contract.
Order Details:
Brazil ordered 25,000 M1917s in 1937, with deliveries continuing until 1946. A later order of 12,000 was placed in 1946.
